How our personal injury work is funded

Almost all of our personal injury and medical negligence work is funded by a Conditional Fee Agreement, No Win No Fee.

No Win No Fee means you pay nothing upfront and nothing at all if your claim does not succeed. If you win, a success fee is deducted from your compensation. On most personal injury claims we charge 20%, lower than the 25% maximum many firms apply; some lower-value Official Injury Claim portal cases are charged at a different rate, which we always explain clearly before you sign.

Disbursements

Disbursements are payments to third parties, for example medical report fees, medical records charges, court issue fees and expert reports. We will tell you what is needed and how it will be funded before it is incurred. On a No Win No Fee claim, recoverable disbursements are usually recovered from the opponent if you win, and can be covered by After the Event insurance if you lose.

Insurance against the other side's costs

Where appropriate we will advise you about After the Event insurance, which protects you against having to pay the opponent's costs and your own disbursements if the claim is unsuccessful. We will explain any premium and how it is paid before the policy is taken out.

Likely timescales

Timescales depend on the injury, whether liability is admitted, and how long it takes for your medical position to become clear. Straightforward claims can settle within months of medical evidence being obtained; serious and catastrophic injury claims usually take considerably longer, because the full extent of your injuries and future needs must be established before a claim can be properly valued.

Who will do your work

Your case is handled by a senior solicitor from start to settlement. Cases are not delegated to unqualified file-handlers or a call centre.

Regulation and complaints

We are authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (No. 560755) and are members of APIL, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. If you are unhappy with our service or a bill, our Complaints Procedure explains how to raise it with us and how to escalate to the Legal Ombudsman or the SRA.
